Wendy was educated at Western Michigan University for both her bachelors degree in occupational therapy, and her masters degree in counseling psychology. She has intensively studied sensory processing and is certified in the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test (SIPT certified). Wendy has also done in-depth study using the Developmental, Individual-difference, and Relationship based approach (DIR model), which influences her work with all children and families. Her work with children and families has led her down the path of studying trauma and it’s impact on development, which led to becoming a TBRI Practitioner ®.
Occupational therapy involves more than working with your child. It is about collaboration and knowing what makes your child tick. It is about learning where their individual strengths lie and figuring out how to get them to the next level. Our team works closely with families, taking on something hard (whether it be a task or a topic), breaking it into more manageable parts, focusing on those little parts, and then working them back into the whole.
In therapy sessions, we work hard. But we also have fun along the way. When children have fun, they are less stressed and more easily able to access skill development. This makes the changes that we make more likely to last. The process of reaching goals is completely different for each child, and that's what makes this work challenging, rewarding, and fun.
